ADRIAN, Mich. - The Bluffton University men's basketball team used a 56-point second half to score a 91-77 victory at Adrian College on a windy Monday, Dec. 29, 2025. Bluffton won its second straight game while improving to 3-7 on the season. Adrian College slipped to 3-7 overall.
Adrian held a commanding 46-35 lead at the break and was still up 63-57 with 11:25 to play when the Beavers went to work. Free throws from William Layfield (West Chester/Lakota West) and Justice Thompson (Ashland/Crestview) followed by a Matt Ray (Indianapolis, Ind./Herron) triple pulled the visitors within a point (65-64) at the 9:17 mark.
Layups by Andre Irvin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) and Layfield set the stage for an Ian Snelling (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights) three-ball that gave Bluffton a 76-72 advantage. Senior Nevin Robson (Kenton/Hardin Northern) got to rack with just under four minutes on the clock, giving the Beavers an 80-73 lead.
Freshman Jaxon Foster (Lima/Bath) picked off the Bulldogs and took it the other way, making it 85-75, before Irvin and Snelling salted it away with six freebies down the stretch.
Irvin hit 14-of-20 at the line on the way to a career-high 26 points. He also knocked down 2-of-3 outside the arc and pulled down five rebounds. Snelling followed with 19 points, while Robson chipped in with 16 markers. They both hauled in seven caroms. JD Stokes (West Harrison, Ind./Franklin County) dropped in 10 counters, making it four Beavers in double figures. Thompson added eight points on a perfect 6-of-6 at the stripe. Snelling picked up four steals and handed out three assists.
Bluffton hit 28-of-60 from the field (46.7 percent) including 6-for-16 (37.5 perent) outside the arc. The Beavers made hay at the line, knocking down 29-of-38 (76.3 perent). Bluffton pulled down three more rebounds (36-33) and it forced the Bulldogs into seven more turnovers (22-15).
The Beavers are right back in action on New Years Eve when Tom Heil and his Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets come to town. Tip-off in the Sommer Center is slated for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31.
