BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton Beavers volleyball team would break in the freshly designed court that was renovated over the summer in their home opener against the Kenyon Owls. With the home crowd making the Sommer Center shake, the Beavers would do well at the net, cruising to a 3-0 win over Owls. With the victory, Bluffton improves to 3-2 on the year as Kenyon stays winless with a 0-3 record.
Bluffton would open up the first set, riding off the crowds energy and 25-19, hitting .302 for the set while the Owls would only have a mark of .214. The Beavers also edged out Kenyon in kills with a 19-9 advantage. As they went through set two, Kenyon showed spurts of life, but Bluffton would end up striking the Owls down in a 27-25 nail-biter. The Beavers would have a 16-13 edge in total kills, but Kenyon would be more efficient with a .225 hitting percentage while the home team sat at .125. The Owls would have a betting hitting percentage in the third set with a mark of .207, but the Beavers offense proved too much to handle, winning 25-20 and sealing the sweep.
For the game, Bluffton would finish with a 48-32 advantage in total kills, while the Owls held the advantage in hitting percetage at .216 while the Beavers were at .203. The home team was also dominant on the serve, compiling 13 aces in the contest while Kenyon only struck down 3. Jenna Woods (DeGraff, Ohio / Riverside) would leaad the Beavers at the net with 16 kills, with Madison Brentlinger (Indian Lake) would be right behind her with 12, while also having three aces and seven digs. Dishing out 23 assists in the match was Ella Taylor (Urbana) with Gabby Williams (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty-Salem) right on her tail with 16. Senior Emma Organ (Lambertville, MI / St. Ursula Academy) would be all over the floor, finishing the day with 19 digs.
The Beavers will kick right back into action on Friday, Sept. 5 when they travel to Erie, PA to compete in the PSB Invitational, starting at 5 p.m. when they go up against Thiel.
