BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team scored early and often in its 6-0 rout of Manchester University on a cold and windy Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025. The home fans were treated to Bluffton's sixth shutout of the season and second conference victory in four days, one on each side of Salzman Stadium. Bluffton improved to 7-9 overall and 2-5 in the Heartland Conference while keeping hope alive for an HCAC tournament berth.
Sophomore Katie Singleton (Hamilton/Badin) showed off her fancy footwork while putting Bluffton on top less than seven minutes into the match! Half an hour later Adeline Thorn (Smithville) found Parker Penhorwood (Bellefontaine) for a 2-0 lead that the home team carried into the break.
Goals by junior Morgan Jarvis (Powell/Dublin Scioto) and Brysan Brewer (Middletown) were separated by less than two minutes and they put the Spartans in a 4-0 hole with 30 minutes to play. Brewer's team-best sixth tally was delivered by Jarvis. The standout was willing to dish the rock off five minutes later when she connected with fellow sophomore Reece Lawler (Vandalia/Butler) for her first goal of the season.
Freshman defender Naomi Diekman (Grandville, Mich./Jenison) dished out her first collegiate assist to Penhorwood who found the back of the net for her second goal of the match en route to a convincing 6-0 shellacking on Wednesday afternoon.
Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week Madison Kutscher (Rossford) combined with junior Sydney Sherick (Findlay/Van Buren) for 90 minutes of no Spartan goals. They both finished the match with three saves.
Brewer and Penhorwood paced the Beavers with six shots apiece, while Lawler tallied five attempts. Jarvis, Singleton and Mya Vernon (Toledo/Central Catholic) all followed with four shots in the win over Manchester.
Bluffton dominated with a 32-12 advantage in total shots, including 16-6 on frame. The home team forced nine of the 12 corner kicks, while the Spartans were called for three more infractions (8-5).
The Beavers head to Terre Haute, Ind., for a 1 p.m. meeting with Rose-Hulman at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25.
