Bluffton scores late for 1-0 win over Great Lakes

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team broke a scoreless tie with just over 13 minutes to play and that goal turned out to be the only tally as the Beavers downed Great Lakes Christian on a beautiful Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025. Bluffton evened up its season mark at 5-5 on Faculty Appreciation Night! GLC slipped to 3-5-2 on the season.

Bluffton was responsible for eight of the nine shots taken in the first half, but the score remained deadlocked until minute 77 when sophomore Brysan Brewer (Middletown) connected with senior Kelsie Gladieux (Northwood/Lake) and she found the upper right corner of the goal for a 1-0 Bluffton lead.

The home team finished with a convincing 26-4 edge in total shots, including 10-3 on frame, but the only one that mattered was a Gladieux kick that found the back of the net! The Beavers controlled the action with a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks, while GLC was whistled for four more fouls (10-6).

Junior Mya Vernon (Toledo/Central Catholic) led the home team with eight shot attempts, four on frame. Brewer and Reece Lawler (Vandalia/Butler) added five shots apiece.

Freshman keeper Madison Kutscher (Rossford) turned away all three shots she faced while improving to 4-3 between the pipes.

Bluffton heads to Berea College for its second straight Saturday in Kentucky on October 4. Kickoff with the Mountaineers is slated for 1 p.m.
