BLUFFTON, Ohio - The wind was howling as the Bluffton University women's soccer team hosted the Earlham College Quakers in their final game of the season. After a tight first half, the Beavers were able to pull away late in the second period after two goals sealed the victory, ending the season on a high note. With the 2-0 win, Bluffton finishes the season with an overall record of 5-9-3 and 2-6-1 in the conference.
The first half was neck and neck, but Bluffton was able to hold a 13-8 advantage in total shots, with a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. However, despite the shots, neither team was able to finish as they went into the half notched at 0-0.
After the teams went back and forth to begin the second half, Kate Stephens (Trenton/Edgewood) would break the tie after following up a shot that deflected off the Quaker keeper in the 71st minute, giving Bluffton a 1-0 lead. That ignited a flame in the Beavers as they would outshoot Earlham 7-3 in the next 14 minutes, before Karley Ramirez (Archbold) notched her first career goal of the season to extend the home team's lead to 2-0. The menacing defense from the Beavers held strong, as they concluded their 2024 season with a win.
Bluffton would finish with a 25-19 edge in total shots, including an 11-8 advantage in shots on frame. With Kate Stephens and Karley Ramirez picking up the goals for the Beavers, Reece Lawler (Vandalia/Butler) and Katie Singleton (Hamilton/Badin) would each collect an assist in the contest.
In the net for Bluffton was Brielle Collier (Anna) who snagged eight saves in her last collegiate appearance.
