ANDERSON, Ind. - Bluffton would hit the highway for its first road conference game of the season, traveling to Anderson to face off against the Ravens. Riding the momentum from last week's 39-23 win over Manchester, the Beavers erupted for 49 straight points as they cruised to a dominant 49-7 win at Anderson. The Beavers improved to 4-1 on the season and to 2-0 in the HCAC, whie the Ravens fell to 1-4 and stayed winless in conference play at 0-2. It marks the first time Bluffton has opened with a 4-1 mark since the Denny Dorrel-led Beavers started the 2016 campaign with a 6-1 record!
Right out of the gate, Bluffton took its first play of the contest to the house when Tywuan Clark (Toledo/Central Catholic) connected with Jashawn Wyckoff (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights) for a 52-yard touchdown. After holding a 7-0 at the end of the first frame, the Beavers added a score less than one minute into the second quarter to go up 14-0 following a Jamarrion Banks (Cleveland Heights) 1-yard run.
The Bluffton offense would get another touchdown on the board after a two-minute drive was capped off with a 53-yard touchdown pass from Tywuan Clark to Niegel Payne (Detroit, Mich./River Rouge). With just one minute left in the first half, Jashawn Wyckoff hauled in his second score of the game from 30 yards out, giving the visitors a 28-0 lead at the half.
Bluffton scored touchdown number five just two minutes into the second half when Tywuan Clark hit Jashawn Wyckoff for the third time of the afternoon, giving the Beavers a 35-0 lead. The Bluffton offense couldn't be contained as Tywuan Clark scrambled for a 25-yard score that was followed with a 58-yard rushing touchdown from Jaivon Hudson (Bedford) as the Beavers opened a 49-0 lead midway through the fourth quarter. Anderson finally cracked the board after scoring a 16-yard touchdown pass as Bluffton cruised to a 49-7 win.
The Bluffton offense rolled up 430 yards with a very balanced pass-run attack, while Anderson finished with just 214 total yards. The Beavers churned out 206 yards on the groud, with Jaivon Hudson piling up 112 yards on 12 carries, including a score. Tywuan Clark connected on 7-of-14 of his passes, going for 216 yards and four passing touchdowns, while recording 53 yards on the ground with a rushing touchdown. Jashawn Wyckoff made the most of his three catches, tallying 153 receiving yards and recording three touchdowns.
The Beavers were led by Savon Gatlin (Riverdale, Ga./Drew), who piled up six total tackles, including a sack and forced fumble. Maxwell Moore (Chagrin Falls) was all over the field and would do a bit of everything, getting four tackles that included a pair of sacks, while also snagging his first interception of the season.
Bluffton will come back home looking to add on to its three-game winning streak when the Beavers host the Mount St. Joseph Lions on Saturday, Oct. 18, on Alumni Field, with a 1:30 p.m. kickoff. Come out and support your Beavers!
