ANGOLA, Ind. - The Bluffton University volleyball team dropped a four-set decision at Trine University on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025. Bluffton slipped to 7-10 on the season, while The Thunder improved to 5-10 on the season.
Three kills from freshman Laila Sites (Delphos/St. John's) powered the visitors to a commanding 10-3 lead in set one. Trine bounced back, knotting the score at 20-20, before the Beavers scored five of the final six points for a 25-21 victory in the lidlifter.
Bluffton led 20-17 and 23-21 in set two, but Trine rolled off four straight points to even up the match. The lead bounced back and forth in the third set as Bluffton went up 20-19, however, six straight winners for The Thunder put Trine up 2-1.
The home team capped off the night with a 25-19 victory in the clincher.
Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) needed 13 kills to get to 1,000 for her career and she got those and a whole lot more! The senior finished with a whopping 21 hammers while hitting .240 for the match. Sites smacked 14 kills as she and Woods combined for 35 putaways.
Senior Gabby Williams (West Liberty/West Liberty-Salem) doled out 46 assists and she came up with eight pickups. Reigning HCAC Player of the Week Emma Organ (Lambertville, MI/St. Ursula Academy) led the back row with a sparkling 26 digs. Abby Lawhorn (Cable/Mechanicsburg) and Madison Brentlinger (Indian Lake ) added 14 and 10 digs, respectively.
Bluffton will be back in Allen County for the first time in over three weeks when the Beavers host the annual Sommer Center Spiketacular. Adrian College is the first order of business at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26.
