Bluffton falls to Westminster and Wheaton

ADA, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team was on the verge of a four-set victory over Westminster, but the Titans rallied for a 26-24 win and then capped it off with a 15-9 score in the clincher at Ohio Northern on Saturday, Sept. 28. Wheaton dominated Bluffton in straight sets as the Beavers fell to 13-5 on the season.

Senior Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) was on fire against Westminster, hitting .325 with 16 kills against just three errors! Sophomores Chloe Sample (Springfield/Catholic Central) and Kasey Sager (Troy) followed with 12 and nine kills, respectively.

Mallory Fluharty (Wooster/Triway) and Ella Taylor (Urbana) doled out 25 and 21 assists, respectively. Abby Lawhorn (Cable/Mechanicsburg) paced the back row with 20 digs. Freshman Saniyah Terry (Macomb, MI/L Anse Creuse HS North) came up with 20 digs, while Chloei Barnett added 13 pickups. Lawhorn fired four aces and Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) stuffed the Titans with five blocks.

Woods smacked seven kills in the sweep by Wheaton Saturday afternoon. Fluharty, who was named to the all-tournament team, dished out 10 assists, while Lawhorn tallied 11 digs.

Bluffton will kick off Heartland Conference play next Saturday, Oct. 5, when the Beavers travel to Lexington, Ky., for a 2 p.m. meeting with the Transylvania University Pioneers.
