BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer squad hosted the Wabash College Little Giants on a breezy Sunday afternoon. After an early goal from the visitors, Bluffton responded ferociously with five unanswered goals en route to a 5-1 win at Sears Complex. With the victory, Bluffton improves to an overall record of 2-4-1 on the season, while the Little Giants fell to 3-4 on the year.
It took just seven minutes for the scoreboard to change from 0-0 as Wabash snuck a shot past Zach Johnson (Middletown) and into the top left corner of the net. Down 1-0, the Beavers would answer almost immediately as Nick Meyer (Lewisburg/Tri-County North) would score from outside the box with a perfect placement into the top right corner of the goal, just out of reach for the Wabash keeper. The scoring would continue for Bluffton in the 21st minute, as Alex Brown (Delaware/Buckeye Valley) would roll a grounder past the goalie off a great assist from Jaden Ngufor (London, Ont. Canada/FC London), putting the Beavers up 2-1.
After leading 2-1 after the break, Bluffton would be on the receiving end of an own goal from Wabash when an errant pass went past the keeper and into the net, putting the Beavers up 3-1 in the 68th minute. Bluffton would hold strong defensively while adding the first collegiate goal from Andrew Phillips (Westfield, IN/Westfield) in the 85th minute, and then a final tally from Nick Meyer in the 87th minute. The Little Giants left the field shellshocked as the Beavers dominated to the tune of a 5-1 victory which marked Bluffton's first-ever win over Wabash!
While Wabash would outshoot Bluffton 26-9, both teams would have the same shots on goal with six apiece. Having a day to remember was Nick Meyer who scored twice while also adding an assist in 75 minutes of action. Alex Brown and Andrew Phillips each took advantage of their one shot in the contest, both of which were able to find the back of the net. Picking up an assist for the Beavers was Leonardo Campos (Santiago, Chile/Campbellsville University), his third of the 2025 campaign.
Bluffton will look to carry this momentum into its next match when the men travel to Heidelberg on Wednesday, Sept. 24, with kickoff in Tiffin at 4 p.m. It will be the first of a three-game roadtrip for the Beavers.
