BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton Beaver men's soccer squad returned home after a short road trip to host the Wilmington University Quakers at Alumni Field on Wednesday, Sept. 17. Offense was hard to come by for the Beavers, and after falling behind 2-0 in the first half, Bluffton would be unable to mount a comeback as they would fall on their home turf 2-0. The loss drops the Beavers to a record of 1-4-1 overall, while Wilmington improved to 5-0-1 on the season.
Bluffton would hold the Quakers to three total shots in the first 20 minutes, but it would be their fourth shot attempt that would find the back of the Beavers net, putting them behind 1-0. The momentum would continue for the visitors as they would follow that up with another goal less than one minute later, taking a 2-0 lead on Bluffton 21 minutes into the contest. Despite the Beavers showing some more aggressiveness in the second half on the offensive front, they wouldn't be able to cut the deficit, with Wilmington coming out with a 1-0 win over the hosts.
The visitors would hold a 19-9 edge in total shots with an 11-2 advantage in shots on frame in the contest. It was a physical contest, with the Quakers tallying nine fouls and collecting four yellow cards while Bluffton would commit eight fouls overall and only pick up one card in the outing. Zach Johnson (Middletown) chalked up nine total saves in the outing.
The Beavers will stay at home for their next game as they host Wabash on Sunday, Sept. 21, with kickoff starting at 3 p.m. Come out and support your Beavers!
