ADA, Ohio - The Bluffton University baseball team traveled right down the road to face off against the Ohio Northern Polar Bears on Monday, April 21, 2025. After a quick start from the Polar Bears, the deficit would be too much as ONU cruised to a 13-3 win over the Beavers. Bluffton fell to 6-25-1 on the season, while the Polar Bears improved to 23-8 overall.

The hosts bolted out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs before adding two in the second to make it a 5-0 ballgame. Ohio Northern would add another three runs in the third and then another run in the fourth, extending their lead to 9-0.

Following a scoreless fifth, Bluffton got on the board when senior Aaron Archer (Bowling Green) drew a bases-loaded walk to cut the deficit to 9-1. The Beavers would add another run off a fielder's choice, but the Polar Bears responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to go up 10-2. The Beavers  made it 10-3 in the top of the seventh, however, they were unable to cut the gap any more as three more runs in the bottom of the eighth put the game out of reach (13-3).

Seven different Bluffton players would collect a hit in the contest, with Justin Maurer (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) going 4-for-5 at the plate with a run. He finished just one hit shy of Bluffton's single-game record. Ayden Spriggs (North Lewisburg/Triad) would also add a run, while Aaron Archer and Drew Snipes (Pickerington/North) drove in a run apiece.

Starting the day on the mound and falling to 0-1 on the year was Alexander James (Vandalia/Butler). He held ONU to just one hit in 1.1 innings, but James allowed three earned runs and walked four batters. Sean Brock (Wauseon) would go 3.0 innings of relief, picking up a pair of strikeouts while allowing three runs on three hits.

The Beavers will have to put this loss in their rearview mirror quickly as they get set to welcome the Berea Mountaineers for the rubber match of the three-game series on Tuesday, April 22, with the first pitch being thrown at 4:15 p.m.
